Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss topics such as the Iran Contra scandal.
